Outreach Ethiopia has been working with the children and elderly in the small rural town of Weledi in Ethiopia to create jobs, income, social capital, and food security since 2005.

Our Beginnings
We are making lasting change in Weledi, Ethiopia
It started in 2005. We provided financial and management assistance to the people of Weledi to construct a bridge which was destroyed in a flash flood. We discovered there were 160 orphaned and vulnerable children in Weledi. We also found out it was common to find children living on their own as head of the household.
In November 2009 our group travelled to Weledi. Our mission was to determine the best method for us to assist these children. Through our research we prayerfully determined the best way to help them was to provide for their basic needs and educate them so they have the opportunity to help themselves.
We began the initial funding for Outreach Ethiopia and started providing food, clothing, educational materials and a savings program for each child’s future. We also believe the health of their community is important in order for them to thrive. So we began teaching the community life skills. We believe through social and life skills training we can strengthen the community’s problem solving abilities.
Outreach Ethiopia, in collaboration with ORDA Ethiopia, has implemented several initiatives in the community since 2010 and has plans to add additional initiatives in the future. We have faith that God can build great things from this small village. Our prayer is that by helping one community bring themselves out of a poverty, the people in that community will then be able to help others causing a chain reaction that can spread God’s love throughout Ethiopia and the world.
